If It's Monday, It Must Be Weigh-In Day
Actually, for me, every day is weigh-in day. There are as many views on how to approach the scale (if at all) as there are people wanting to shift a few pounds. Some say to weigh weekly only. Others only jump on the dreaded device monthly. Others have tossed their scales out altogether and gauge where they are by how their clothes fit - or how far below their belly their jeans have been pushed to accommodate 'Dunlops Disease. You're familiar with condition, right? When your tummy has done lopped over the top of your trousers. Might be a Southern thing...
Me? I weigh every day. As I wrote in this post, I have done so for over 15 years. There were intermittent lapses, usually due to being away from home for vacations, the marriage of our older son or recovery from breast cancer treatments. (The first two reasons were definitely more fun than the 3rd). One time I deliberately didn't weigh thinking that since the months and months of diligently trying to lose weight and monitor my weight daily wasn't working I'd stop weighing.
I gained 12 pounds.
Now I weigh every day unless I'm away from home. It keeps me in line. It keeps me informed. And it has helped teach me patience. My weight loss hasn't been a straight line. Anything but. Upon first eating very low carb/high fat (another way of referring to the ketogenic protocol) the weight did indeed seem to fall off. But there are fluctuations. Our body holds on to water and ... waste ... . It self-regulates minerals and hydration as needed quite well. I attach one of the many components of my beloved spreadsheet. I've not included the weight numbers. (I could share them but then I'd have to kill you. Even my Lovely Mate doesn't know what I weigh. It's taken me years to become quasi-comfortable with posting photos of myself. Maybe one day I can voice how much I weigh.)
The point is, its a squiggly line. Always has been.
Do you weigh yourself? If so, how often?
The information I present here is based on my own experiences and personal research. While I’ve been fortunate to have much person-to-person exposure to leading researchers, physicians and journalists regarding the ketogenic specifically and LCHF (low carb/high fat) more generally, we are all responsible for our own choices, including what we put in our mouths. I welcome questions, comments and even civil criticism. I’m still learning. So, i you have something to add, go for it. Thanks! - Casey
